Children's Faith Formation

Effective faith formation provides opportunities for children to practice their faith through hands-on participation in the life, ministries, and activities of the faith community.  That is why we encourage our young parishioners to assist the ushers in receiving the offering, to help the altar guild at the conclusion of the worship service, and on occasion, to interact with Pastor Martha during the liturgy.  The children in our community also participate in many of our outreach ministries, particularly sharing in Christ's fellowship while visiting our homebound parishioners.

During the school year (September through May), we offer Second Sunday Children's Class beginning at 9:45 for children aged 3 through 5th grade.  (THIRD SUNDAY IN OCTOBER 2024) On these Sundays, the children rejoin the adults in worship in time for holy communion.  Also throughout the school year, our Director of Music Ministries leads a junior choir which is about much more than music:  it's also about faith formation!  Then, on the fourth Sunday of the month, a part of worship is specifically planned for children's participation.  On all other Sundays, we have a children's area in the nave furnished with kid-sized table & chairs, a comfortable rug, and activities related to fit the theme of the day.  This welcoming space for families with young children allows parents and children alike to interact and worship together.

Spiritual Growth through Worship Leadership

You may wonder why assisting in worship is listed under faith formation.  The answer is this:  we believe that engaging people in worship leadership enlivens their relationship with Christ, and that opportunity should be shared as widely as possible. Because we do not schedule worship assistants in advance, but ask for volunteers' week by week, the Holy Spirit has prompted many unlikely parishioners to come forward to serve by reading scripture, leading the prayers, or assisting at communion.  The feedback has been consistent:  helping to lead in worship is both humbling and spiritually uplifting.

Antiracism Study Group

Our next Antiracism emphasis will be a public viewing of the documentary, Just Mercy, on Wednesday, March 12th, at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion to follow the documentary.  Please join us.
